The Trailer for “NBA 2K18” Is Here, Starring Kyrie Irving in Cavs Gear (For Now)

The first trailer for NBA 2K18 shows art director Joel Friesch boasting about it being the “best looking NBA game possible”.

There’s only one problem: By the time it’s released in September, there’s a chance its cover star, Kyrie Irving, won’t be wearing the correct uniform.

After putting “thousands” of hours of work into the detail of the players’ scars, stretch marks and faded tattoos, the literal artwork for NBA 2K18 may become instantly dated (and perhaps even a collector’s item), should Irving be traded from the Cleveland Cavaliers, as he’s requested.

Of course, players being traded in the NBA is par for the course, and the game often accommodates for these updates.

But there’s no denying the awkwardness that would come if Irving’s seen holding up a Knicks or Suns jersey in the days leading up to 2K18’s release.

But anyway, the new game promises improved uniforms, high-resolution accessories and enhanced features in “MyPLAYER”. There are also more hairstyles available. (“Juice Box Fade,” anyone?)

In the video below, you can see just how good it all looks, as well as watch Lonzo Ball and his fellow rookies getting scanned and then transformed into their animated selves.

FYI, the trailer also announces “The Prelude”, a free “downloadable experience” that will become available on September 8, allowing PS4 and Xbox One players to begin their “MyCAREER” a week before the full game officially launches.

Better start reading up on how to get “Bonus VC” in NBA 2K18 now.

NBA 2K18 is officially releaed on September 15 (provided you pre-order it first).
