Another One: "The Simpsons" Correctly Predicted the US Would Win Curling at the Olympics

Is Matt Groening an actual time-traveller... or just psychic?
The Simpsons has had quite a run recently with predictions of the future. People are starting to realise that a lot of the 'jokes' it made in old episodes have actualised into real-life nightmares. Take the 2016 U.S. election: once the results came in and Americans realised Donald Trump was their new leader, people remembered back to 2000 when The Simpsons joked that Trump would become president. It happened.
What about the time in 1995, with "Lisa's Wedding", when they predicted video calls? It happened (Skype, FaceTime).
What about the time in 1997, with "El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Homer (The Mysterious Voyage of Homer), when they showed the NSA phone-tapping homes? It basically happened.
So, now, we can add the U.S. Curling team winning gold against Sweden to the list. Because that just happened.

The episode was "Boy Meets Curl" from 2010 and saw Homer and Marge Simpson compete in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. They compete in the final against Sweden and win the gold medal. At the time it aired, mixed doubles didn't even exist, only making its debut during this year's Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.
In real life, after a tight (dare I say, nail-biting) match, the American team snatched the win against the world number-one, Sweden. It was a true underdog story just like The Simpsons had depicted eight years ago.
Now, technically they didn't get everything right. In the episode, they predicted that Russia would come third. In real life, it was Switzerland. They predicted it would be in the mixed double's. It was actually in the men's tournament. Big differences, okay.
So, next time you're watching The Simpsons and you find yourself laughing at a ridiculous scenario, just think: It could happen in a few years. Let's hope it's not "Night of the Dolphin".
