Merriam-Webster, In a Perfectly Cromulent Move, Has Added "Embiggen" to the Dictionary

Well, it is a perfectly cromulent word.

Merriam-Webster has revealed that they have added 850 new words to their dictionary, including one, embiggen, made famous by a 1996 episode of The Simpsons.

In episode 144, "Lisa the Iconoclast", Lisa discovers that Jebediah Springfield, the hero the town is named after, is not actually a hero at all. Instead, he is a ravenous pirate and an enemy of George Washington. During the episode, Springfield's town motto is shown to be, "a noble spirit embiggens the smallest man."

Later, Ms Krabappel admits that she never heard embiggen before moving to Springfield, to which Ms Hoover responds: "I don't know why; it’s a perfectly cromulent word."

Both embiggen and cromulent were totally made-up words for this episode. Until now, that is.

Merriam-Webster defines embiggen as "to make bigger or more expansive."

Need to use it in a sentence? No worries.

Other words that have been added included kombucha, cryptocurrency, glamping, dumpster fire and mansplain. The additions are very of the times.

But, what wasn't included in the list, was our beloved and oft-used word, cromulent.

We demand answers Merriam-Webster. Cromulent is a perfectly cromulent word and its use has obviously been embiggened over the years.

It would be cromulent to include it in the next mass addition.
