The "Riverdale" Season 4 Trailer Is Here and Where Is Our Precious Jughead? Here Are Some Theories

Bughead fans are simply not okay.

*Spoilers from Season 3 of Riverdale below.*

The characters on Riverdale really don’t get much normality. Between dealing with demented games, and cult leaders that enjoy harvesting organs, we fully empathise with their hectic schedules.

When we saw the core four enjoying milkshakes at Pop’s Chock’lit Shoppe in the Season 3 finale, we thought the characters might be in for a totally normal senior year.

Lol, jokes.

In a completely unsurprising flash-forward, we see Betty (Lili Reinhart), Veronica (Camila Mendes), and Archie (KJ Apa), covered in blood, with Betty instructing Archie to burn their clothes. Sure, that seemed reasonable. But then Betty muttered the most savage words in human history. 

"Including Jughead’s beanie."

That’s right. Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) and his signature clothing item have been brutally torn apart, which cannot be good. Naturally, this sent Bughead fans into panic mode for the past four months.

Thankfully, we can all put our investigative caps back on now, because the Season 4 trailer is finally here.

So, where is Jughead Jones?

Well, he’s definitely missing. The trailer opens with the characters charging through the forest with flashlights, calling his name. But nothing is ever that simple on Riverdale, so let’s explore what might have happened to our precious Jughead.

Gladys Jones kidnapped him.

Can your own mum kidnap you? In the world of Riverdale, that would be a relatively sane storyline. In the trailer, we see someone hit Betty on the head with a gun. Some fans are speculating that it is none other than Gladys Jones (Gina Gershon), and that she might have something to do with Jughead’s disappearance.

Jughead has gone into hiding.

Another popular theory is that Jughead murders Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos), so he’s gone into hiding to avoid getting caught. It could be possible that this is some kind of How to Get Away with Murder plot, and Betty, Veronica and Archie were present at the murder, consequently helping Jughead leave Riverdale. That'd be pretty wild. 

I think Jughead kills Hiram or one of the “insane” adults and they help him leave riverdale without getting caught. The whole spring break could have also been an alternate ending if things didn’t go the way they did.

He’s been buried alive.

Towards the end of the trailer, we see Jughead frantically screaming for help while he’s presumably trapped. Initially, it seems like this is why he might be missing. But Riverdale fans have a sharp eye, and some believe it is part of a prep school prank.

Jughead is dead.

While it seems unlikely, there is always the chance that our beloved Jughead Jones might be killed off. Why? It’s too soon to know, but it wouldn’t be the first time the writers have done something completely shocking. Seriously, remember the Heathers musical episode? Enough said.
