The Pope Fat-Shamed Donald Trump in Rome and Melania Just Laughed

If U.S. President Donald Trump was hoping to make his constituents forget his worst-ever-week by traipsing the globe, he didn’t account for legendary insult comic, Pope Francis.

Trump and his family met with Pope Francis at the Vatican yesterday, following a visit to the Middle East (his first international trip as Commander in Chief).

During their initial greeting, Pope Francis cheekily gave Trump not one but two serves.

The first was subtle: During a gift exchange, Pope Francis reportedly handed President Trump his 2015 climate change encyclical. (You may remember this as the document in which he described the planet as “an immense pile of filth”.) No doubt this was in response to Trump’s anti-environment agenda.

The second insult was explicit. While chatting with First Lady Melania Trump, Pope Francis asked her, through a translator, about Donald’s, erm, physique: “What do you give him to eat, potizza?”

She laughed and responded in the affirmative, though she misunderstood and assumed he said “pizza”. (“Potizza” is a pastry native to Melania’s Slovenian home.) Either way, stone cold.

If only there was video footage of the incident oh wait there absolutely is.

A photo of the Trumps alongside Pope Francis—looking just psyched to be there—later went viral, with Twitter taking the opportunity to photoshop in some other enthusiastic parties.
