The Daily Mail Says They’re Sorry About Publishing An Article About Samantha Armytage’s “Giant Granny Panties”

The Daily Mail Australia has issued Samantha Armytage an apology, after they published a story about her underwear, with photos included.

The article copped fierce backlash for its treatment of the Sunrise co-host and, in the fallout of it all, the website amended its original online story to include an apology.

The story itself was mostly comprised of paparazzi shots of the co-host out-and-about on a grocery trip. Originally, writers had referred to Armytage’s underwear as “granny panties”; this reference has since been removed.

“An earlier version of this story contained critical statements regarding Samantha Armytage’s appearance,” reads the apology. “The story has since been amended, we apologise for any distress caused to Ms Armytage or readers more generally.”

The Daily Mail ran the story using the headline: “Sunrise host Sam Armytage dares to bare with giant granny panties showing a visible line as she steps out in Sydney… after slamming rumours she’s dating Channel Seven colleagues.”

Now it reads: “Casual Sunday! Sunrise host Samantha Armytage goes solo as she heads out on a shopping trip after slamming rumours about her dating life.”

Quite the back down, obviously. Not surprising given the backlash it received on Twitter, especially.

The story went live just a few hours after Armytage posted the following photo to Instagram, in which she criticises tabloids getting too involved in her private life.

Buzzfeed reports Armytage is considering legal action.
