"Tenet" Will Be Released in Australia Late August Before Hitting U.S. Screens

The new dates have been confirmed.

Last week, we questioned whether Christopher Nolan's Tenet would ever come to Australian theatres, considering the release date for the film had been pushed back yet again due to the coronavirus pandemic.

With Warner Bros. removing the movie from its release calendar, we weren't entirely sure whether we'd even see the flick in 2020.

In fact, people were heartbroken over the news.

However, you can officially start preparing to be both blown away and confused, because new release dates for Tenet have been confirmed.

Instead of opening in the United States, the film will now be released overseas first in more than 70 countries starting on Wednesday 26 August.

It'll then start arriving in select U.S. cities on Thursday 3 September, in advance of the long Labor Day weekend.

In Australia, the flick will land in cinemas on Thursday 27 August, which is only one month away.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the major foreign territories where Tenet will open include Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Russia, Spain, and the United Kingdom.

At this stage, it's not clear whether Melbourne cinemas will be showing the blockbuster on 27 August. Victorian premier Daniel Andrews has imposed Stage 3 restrictions across metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire for six weeks from 8 July, which means cinemas in those areas have closed.

With the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Victoria still increasing, it's too soon to tell if those cinemas will reopen in time.

Releasing a major film internationally before it opens in the U.S. isn't something that Warner Bros. usually does. But Warner Bros. chairman Toby Emmerich said in a statement last week, "We are not treating Tenet like a traditional global day-and-date release, and our upcoming marketing and distribution plans will be refect that."

Some people have been expressing concerns over potential spoilers, given that the flick will be released internationally before hitting U.S. screens.

Although, others point out that it's probably going to be pretty difficult to explain the plot.

You'll probably want to start preparing your mind now.
