Taylor Swift Thinks The Australian Press Should “Take It Down A Notch”

Australia collectively lost control of its faculties the moment Taylor Swift touched down on our shores.

Not only have politicians taken to quoting her in Parliament (well, those who weren’t busy at her concerts, anyway) but now the media is trying to crash her holiday on Hamilton Island.

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Swift thanked her band and crew for all their hard work over the course of her 1989 world tour.

In the post, she made a point of cooly and calmly but nonetheless firmly asking Australian media (who tried to invade their Hamilton Island vacation) to “take it down a notch.”

So stoked to be able to take my band and crew on a vacation at the end of a long and wonderful tour. For all their hard work this year, they really deserve it. Thank you to Hamilton Island for taking such great care of 125 of the people who work tirelessly to make sure the 1989 World Tour stage gets built, the lights are on, the costumes are made, the guitars are tuned, and the show goes on. Aussie press, I love your enthusiasm but my birthday isn't for 2 weeks and it'll be a quiet one this year. Let's take it down a notch:)

The smiley face that followed “notch” should be interpreted thusly:

Sunrise correspondent Michelle Tapper was booted from Hamilton Island after attempting to get the scoop on Swift’s island-wide shindig. She was informed there was “a complete media ban on the island and Taylor Swift has asked for privacy.”

A spokesperson for Hamilton Island confirmed that certain media outlets were asked to vacate on account of Swift’s presence.

As the island is privately owned, it is perfectly legal for them to expel media from the area.

And, though we too belong to the ravenous throng desperate for glimpses at Swift’s island reverie (which may include an early 26th birthday party featuring certain #squad members), even we’ll admit the public’s right to know maybe doesn’t extend to the intricacies of a singer’s birthday celebrations.

Or, maybe this is the only time journalism has ever mattered? Australian media, toggle your notches accordingly.
