Taylor Swift Fans Are Pretty Upset She Didn’t Join #WomensMarch, Despite Calling Herself A Feminist

Uh-oh.
Taylor Swift has certainly ruffled some feathers after she was notably absent from the Women’s March over the weekend.
The internet has kinda exploded after Taylor Swift fans pointed out the singer and self-proclaimed feminist didn’t join the millions of women marching for their rights under the Trump presidency.
Back in 2014 she proudly declared herself a feminist, a few months before her 1989 album dropped. In recent years she has created a “Girl Squad” of sorts, comprised of numerous beautiful and famous women including Karlie Kloss, Selena Gomez, Gigi Hadid, Ruby Rose and Cara Delevingne (just to name a few).
Much has been written about Swift’s particular “brand” of feminism, which seems to be as much a money-making strategy as it is about the actual empowerment of women. Jill Filipovic, a journalist for the Washington Post, wrote: “There’s a difference between being a feminist and calling yourself a feminist. Feminism is more than just supporting your girlfriends or churning out charming catchphrases about girl power; it’s a political movement, with political aims.”
Others have pointed out the fact Swift never vocally spoke out in support of any presidential candidate. She did, however, tell fans to simply “go out and vote”. Everyone's pretty certain she voted for Hillary Clinton (not Donald Trump), but she didn't want to alienate Red State listeners.
Rather than showing up to one of the numerous organised demonstrations, Swift simply decided to tweet her support for protesters.
So much love, pride, and respect for those who marched. I'm proud to be a woman today, and every day. #WomensMarch

Needless to say, some found her actions a bit ironic. One Twitter user said: “You do not get to pick and choose when feminism benefits you.”
"I can't believe this is all for me!" - Taylor Swift staring down at the Women's March from her penthouse.

Others were less critical of Swift’s comments, rushing to her defense.

To be fair though, when are people not polarised on social media. Am I right?
