"Stranger Things" Will Likely Be Back Next Year With Only Eight Episodes (and a Time Jump)

It's confirmed that the next season of Stranger Things will drop an episode.

Netflix has confirmed that Season Three of Stranger Things will have only eight episodes, the same amount as the first season, and will likely be released in 2019.

But, to soften to blow for us television fiends who now have to wait until next year for new seasons of Stranger Things, Game of Thrones and Rick & Morty, one of the creators, Matt Duffer, has given us a few breadcrumbs of what's to come.

Duffer has told The Hollywood Reporter that the next season will see an obvious time-jump due to the kid actors growing up.

"Our kids are ageing," Duffer said. "They're going to be almost a year older by the time we start shooting season three."

"It forces the show to evolve and change because the kids are changing. Even if we wanted [the show] to be static and we wanted to continually recycle the same storyline—and we don't—we would be unable to, just because the kids are changing."

Duffer then explained that it's a bit like the Harry Potter series where the actors, who started out as children, grew older as each movie was filmed.

"Watching those kids [in Harry Potter] and actors grow up in front of the camera was, to me, very powerful," Duffer said. "It's a long way of saying that yeah, we're going to do a time jump."

Duffer also explained that there is a whole mythology surrounding the mysterious and confusing Upside Down universe, but we might not ever understand all of it.

"We have our Upside Down document which describes its rules and its mythology in quite a bit of detail," Duffer admitted. "But, I think we're just going to slowly parse that out, and maybe not even fully use all of it."

He also explained that the kids in the show use their own rationale to explain what's happening so the monsters that appear, like the Demogorgon and the Mind Flayer, wouldn't necessarily be called that.

"The kids... are able to make these leaps about the Mind Flayer and how it operates and what it wants," Duffer said. "But they're just basing this off of games that they've played. They don't really know for sure."

I guess this information while help us tide over for the year-long wait.
