Stay Calm: Ed Sheeran Was Spotted At An AFL Game on the Weekend

Elsewhere, Marvel superstars were seen at the NRL.

It has been a celebrity fest at Aussie sports events over the weekend with several Hollywood A-listers spotted at the AFL and NRL.

Good ol' Ed Sheeran was spotted in a private box at the MCG for the AFL clash between St. Kilda and Melbourne Demons on Saturday night.

The singer flew down under to perform at music promoter and friend Michael Gudinski’s funeral last Wednesday. Gudinski’s touring company hosted Sheeran's first tour in Australia (and every tour since).

After the funeral, Sheeran and his wife celebrated Gudinski’s love of the St. Kilda football club by watching the game in a corporate box alongside the Gudinski family.

Cameras at the ground didn't take long to find the scarf-wearing singer in the box and the rest was history from then.

Sadly, the Saints weren’t able to get a win for the occasion, losing to the Melbourne Demons 73 – 91.

This isn’t Sheeran’s first brush with AFL. The British star performed at the AFL Grand Final in 2014 alongside fellow British musician, Tom Jones.

The footy wasn’t the only way Sheeran has celebrated Gudinski’s life; the singer and Gudinski’s son got matching tattoos in memory of the late music icon.

Elsewhere in Australia, the cast of Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder were seen in the VIP box at the NRL derby between the South Sydney Rabbitohs and the Sydney Roosters at Sydney Olympic Park on Friday Night.

Stars of the film Chris Hemsworth, Jeff Goldblum, Natalie Portman and director Taika Waititi were all pictured at the game wearing South Sydney hats and sitting in actor Russell Crowe’s corporate box.

Joining them in the box was Hemsworth’s wife Elsa Pataky and Aussie actress Isla Fisher. Unfortunately, there was no sign of Fisher’s husband Sacha Baron Cohen, but he could have easily been in disguise.

It’s been quite the star-studded line-up for Australia recently, with the east coast of the country being seen as the perfect destination for Hollywood to escape COVID-19 and continue filming blockbusters.

Since the pandemic, the likes of Tom Hanks, Liam Neeson, Matt Damon, Christian Bale and Zac Efron have all made their way to Australia to film, with Efron loving our country so much he decided to make the move permanent.

Onya Efron.

We gotta admit, this makes us pretty proud of Australia.
