Why Sports and Tech Go Together More Than You Think

Why Sports and Tech Go Together More Than You Think

They play for the same team 🎾

This article is presented in partnership with Samsung Solve for Tomorrow.

At first glance, sport and tech might seem different. One’s physical and the other’s digital. One happens on a field, the other behind a screen. But if you look really close, sports and tech are already playing on the same team.

If you think about it, sports and tech are already part of our everyday lives. Wearable tech tracks your steps, VR can help athletes train or recover from injuries and apps can connect people to their local sporting communities.

Where could sports and tech take us?

When most of us think of sports we think of PE class in school, after-school team sports or weekend sports.

While it feels like sport is for everyone, not everyone actually gets the chance to experience sports the same way.

This is where tech in sports can help: it could break down barriers and create solutions which in turn can make playing and watching sports more inclusive. This could be sensory-friendly field equipment, or mobility aids which work in tandem with live sporting events.

Or even career opportunities in sports.

The idea of playing sport professionally being the only career option out there is so not true! There are heaps of different careers in sports now.

And when tech comes in, there could be even more.

Think UX designers for sports apps, coders creating inclusive training tools or entrepreneurs building the next game-changing jersey.

Enter: Solve for Tomorrow 2025.

Samsung Solve for Tomorrow is back for another year and this year they’ve got a new category: Social Change through Sports and Tech.

Open to students between 14 to 24 years old, pitch your big idea and win $10,000 along the way.

The comp is all about empowering young people to use their STEM knowledge and skills to solve real-world problems. This could be something that has had an impact on your family, your friends, or even your wider community.

The new Sports and Tech category means you can submit your ideas about how you can combine sports and technology in an impactful way that helps others.

Maybe you’re sitting on an idea you already have. Or maybe you’re thrilled by the challenge to come up with an idea that uses sports and tech together to improve aspects of people’s lives.

It could be as simple as a way to help young people gain new skills in sports, enjoy it more in school or even land a job in sports!

Alright, I want to enter 🤩

Enter the Solve for Tomorrow competition. Once you’ve submitted your 400 word application, Solve for Tomorrow will contact shortlisted entries to attend a Design Thinking workshop.

The mentoring workshop is designed to help you take your idea to new heights. This will help you consider elements you might not have thought about or show you how to get more specific about the issue you are going to solve. It's all about making your idea better so the judges are more likely to love it!

From there, you’ll submit a final video pitch and then it’s up to the judges.

The Major Winner will win $10,000 and a Samsung Ultimate Productivity Prize Pack including a Samsung Galaxy z Flip6, Smart Monitor M70D and Galaxy Buds3. And there are prizes for in the Runner-up 14-18 age group category and 19-24 age group category too.

So if you’re keen to enter your issue on sports and tech, get your submission in before 25 July and find out more on Solve for Tomorrow here.

T&Cs apply. Entry is limited to Australian residents aged 14 – 24 years old. Initial applications open 12:00PM (AEST) Tuesday, 19 June 2025 and close 11:59PM (AEST) Friday, 25 July 2025. Full promotion period will run from 12:00PM (AEST), Tuesday 19 June 2025 to 11:59 PM (AEST), Friday, 26 September 2025.
