Profits! "South Park" Re-Upped For Five More Seasons And A Lot Of Money

Some of us may still think of South Park as the foul-mouthed younger sibling of The Simpsons.
Well, stop, because South Park is officially grown, thanks to a new deal that will see the show run until the year 2020.
(If Stan, Kyle and Cartman had been ageing with each passing year, they would be in their mid 30s by the time the contract expires. Kenny would be dead, obvs.)
According to THR, Comedy Central has signed a new deal with showrunners Trey Parker and Matt Stone that will see a further five seasons of the show produced between now and the end of the decade.
To sweeten the pot, streaming service Hulu has paid $192 million for the show’s entire back catalogue; by 2020, this will amount to 23 seasons. That figure, amazingly, trumps the $180 million Hulu paid for Seinfeld last year.
This payday should snuff out rumours that Parker and Stone have grown tired of working on South Park, initially ignited by their Season 15 classic “You’re Getting Old”.
Perhaps they’ve been reminded that people really love South Park, and no matter how hard it can be to make, they have a responsibility to the fans, like when Randy Marsh invented Lorde. That was great.
