South Australia Pounded By Storms: 70,000 People Without Power

A devastating storm has hit South Australia leaving 70,000 people without power.

Powerful winds have toppled 22 transmissions towers in the state's north, shutting off power to most parts of the state.

By the early hours of the morning, much of Adelaide's power had been restored.

South Australians are preparing for their second day of wild weather, with heavy rain and gale-force winds still expected.

Flood warnings have been raised for certain areas, including the Mount Lofty Ranges. Ocean swells of up to 10 metres are predicted.

The storm has been classified by the Bureau of Meteorology as a once-in-50-year event, which has brought down trees and torn off roofing.

New South Wales is next in line for the storm.

The Bureau of Meteorology has said to expect damaging winds, rain and isolated thunderstorms.
