Folks in New South Wales and South Australia: Prepare to get real sweaty.
Extreme weather conditions are expected to hit NSW on Friday and Saturday, while SA continues to cop an ongoing heatwave. The hot weather will continue to push electricity networks to the absolute brink.
Sydney’s CBD may reach temps as high as 38 degrees Celsius on Friday, while 44 degrees Celsius is forecast for western Sydney.
Far north NSW will be struck hardest; Bourke and Ivanhoe are tipped to reach as high as 48 degrees Celsius on the weekend.
In fact, energy operators are actually expecting potential blackouts late Friday afternoon. If electricity does give out, it’ll likely be between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. (which is when usage peaks).

South Aussies can expect sweltering temperatures near—or above—40 degrees Celsius on Friday. The heatwave’s been so bad up to 90,000 properties across Adelaide and regional SA had their power cut on Wednesday.

The NSW Rural Fire Service has issued total fire bans and a severe fire danger warning. “If the forecast eventuates we’re likely to see catastrophic fire danger develop in some areas including the Hunter,” warned RFS Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons.
