An “Intense” Heatwave Hits Australia: Brisbane And Sydney Slammed Especially Hard

Prime yourself for an absolute scorcher because summer is well and truly making its presence known: with a heatwave.

Queensland and NSW are set to break through the 40 Celsius mark, while most Australian states are looking at temperatures above 30 Celsius.

For some parts of the country, these blistering conditions are likely to stick around through the weekend and early into next week, warns the Bureau of Meteorology.

The extreme heatwave has been labelled “rare and exceptionally intense”.

Victorians and Tasmanians will be spared from most of the heatwave, but the rest of the country will be in for a sizzling few days.

The Bureau of Meteorology said extreme heatwaves have taken more lives than any other natural hazard in Australia in the past 200 years, as reported by the ABC.

People are also being urged to look after their furry friends and critters; here are some tips on how to look after your pets during a heatwave.

Stay hydrated, everyone!
