Snapchat Snaps Up App That Lets Users Make 3D Selfies

Love Snapchat, but sick to death of its reliance on just two measly dimensions?
They have heard your cries of complaint.
According to TechCrunch, Snapchat secretly acquired 3D photo-making app Seene a couple of months ago, for, potentially, “future virtual reality projects”.
Seene, as it exists right now, basically lets you capture 3D models from your smartphone camera. Though it’s not entirely known how Snapchat would deploy this technology, TechCrunch supposes that the social-sharing app could introduce a new 3D photo format as one of its selfie lenses.
And here we all were impressed with just the dog ears and tongue! Were we ever so young?
They might even potentially give you the ability to pop your head into VR environments. (Does this sound a little Skynet-y to anyone else?)
While we wait for Snapchat to make their Seene collaboration public – and to kick off the singularity - watch the video below to see how it all works (and what exactly a ‘3D selfie’ even means).
