Smile! "The Witches" Comes to Australian Cinemas on 10 December

Finally, something to grin about.
Earlier this week, we wondered when The Witches would arrive in Australia.
After all, the latest adaptation of the beloved (and uber-creepy) Roald Dahl book just had its theatrical release in the United States canned as a result of COVID-19, with Warner Bros. handing it over to HBO Max as a streaming title instead.
But WB insisted the flick—starring Anne Hathaway as the head of a witches coven intent on eradicating all children—would still hit cinemas internationally.
Finally, confirmation, for those of us who are "international" in relation to the US: Roadshow Films has announced The Witches will indeed open in Australian cinemas on 10 December 2020.
That's a few months after it arrives on HBO Max in the States: It lands there on 22 October.
Hey, if a few months of patience is the price of seeing Anne Hathaway eat human children on a large screen, we'll take it.
The Witches is directed by Robert Zemeckis and stars Hathaway as The Grand High Witch, Octavia Spencer as The Grandmother, Stanley Tucci as Mr Stringer, Kristin Chenoweth as Daisy the Mouse and Jahzir Kadeem as Bruno The Boy. No word on when the film will be available to stream in Australia, though you shouldn't expect it before 2021.
You can stream and rent the previous 1990 adaptation starring Anjelica Huston from Amazon, Google Play, YouTube and Microsoft Store. Sounds like a good way to wait those extra two months to us!
