Shut Your Butt, the "MacGruber" TV Show Will Stream on Stan In Australia

This is throat-rippingly good news.

MacGruber! A half-baked SNL sketch that spun-off into a movie.

MacGruber! The film flopped in 2010, but it was actually friggin’ genius.

MacGruber! It’s finally a TV show.

MACGRUBER!

Ahem. Now that you’re up to speed, we are pleased to confirm that the TV adaptation of Will Forte’s cult comedy fave MacGruber will be made available to stream on Stan in Australia.

The announcement comes as Stan touts a "landmark" multi-year content partnership with NBC Universal, making Stan the exclusive home of new productions from Sky Studios and NBCUniversal International Studios, as well as Peacock content produced by Universal Studio Group.

Peacock is NBCUniversal’s devoted streaming service, though it’s only currently available in the States. However, its original shows—including Brave New World, Dr. Death, Angelyne, Rutherford Falls, Tina Fey’s Girls5Eva, the adaptation of One of Us Is Lying, and reboots of Saved by the Bell, Punky Brewster and Battlestar Galactica—will all be made available on Stan in Australia.

Oh, and of course, MacGruber too.

The show, based on a character Forte debuted on SNL in 2007 (and extremely obviously based on the nifty crime-solver MacGuyver), has long been promised, but the financial failure of the movie always made it a long shot. Thankfully, enough time has passed for the film to gain enough of a reputation as comedy genius—and streaming services are now hungry enough for original content that they can own and mine—for MacGruber to get another day in the sun.

Here’s the official synopsis for the series:

"After rotting in prison for over a decade, America’s ultimate hero and uber patriot MacGruber (Will Forte) is finally released. His mission: to take down a mysterious villain from his past—Brigadier Commander Enos Queeth. With the entire world in the crosshairs, MacGruber must race against time to defeat the forces of evil -- only to find that evil... may be lurking within."

It's not known if Forte’s co-stars from the film—Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph and Ryan Phillippe—will join him this time around. However, the film’s director, Jorma Taccone (from The Lonely Island), and Forte’s co-writer John Solomon, will definitely be back.

All eight episodes of the MacGruber series will debut in 2021, on Stan in Australia and Peacock in America. Get your sticks of celery ready in anticipation!
