Elon Musk’s “SNL” Monologue Was Low-Key Cursed But Well Worth the Watch

Watch if you dare.

On Saturday night, the world was treated (is that the right word?) to an extra special ep of Saturday Night Live hosted by none other than Mr. Tesla himself: Elon Musk.

Last weekend’s episode was highly anticipated, mostly ‘cos of Musk but also because Miley Cyrus and The Kid LAROI made appearances.

However, outside of performances and the usual SNL bants, Musk had to open the show with his very own monologue—and boy was it interesting.

In the five-minute set, Musk managed to cover so much yet break down so little. So, that’s what we’re here to do.

He compared himself to O.J. Simpson, roasted his own kid’s name and talked about his experience as someone on the Autism spectrum, but that just scratches the surface.

To start off with, Musk proudly claimed to the audience that he is the first person—“or at least the first to admit it”—with Asperger’s syndrome to host SNL.

Unfortunately for Musk, it looks like he was beat out by comedian and former cast member Dan Aykroyd who also has Asperger’s and hosted the show back in 2003.

In bringing this up, he touched on the fact that a lot of people don’t quite understand his humour.

“Look I know I sometimes say or post weird things, but that’s just how my brain works,” he said.

“To anyone I’ve offended I just want to say, I’ve reinvented electric cars and I’m sending people to Mars in a rocket ship, did you think I was also going to be a chill, normal dude?”

This very much gave me Radio Rebel Debbie Ryan meme vibes.

Now, you’re probs wondering what the O.J. Simpson bit was about. Well, Musk brought up the time that he was caught smoking marijuana while on the Joe Rogan podcast.

He referred to himself and celebrities as being “reduced to the dumbest thing they ever did."

"It's like reducing O.J. Simpson to murderer," he then joked.

Yikes.

Musk also brought up the internet gold mine that is his child’s name X Æ A-XII. After displaying it on the screen, he explained that it’s “pronounced like a cat running across a keyboard."

Excuse me sir, I think we need you to elaborate further on that one.

Thankfully, things got a little better when he wholesomely invited his mum Maye Musk onto the stage, only to have that cuteness promptly destroyed when the two shared an extremely awkward script reading conversation.

Idk what they really talked about ‘cos it was so robotic but there was something about a video game he made when he was 12? Plus, he also joked that he was buying his mum Dogecoin for Mother's Day.

In fact, after pumping up the value of the cryptocurrency in the lead-up to his SNL appearance, investors sold off Dogecoin sharply after he spoke about it on the show. It was down 40 per cent, trading as low as 44 US cents on Sunday.

Finally, the monologue ended with Musk joking that maybe we’re all actually living in a video game and that nothing is actually real, which has just provided me with some fresh nightmare fuel.

“Our reality might be a video game and we’re all just computer simulations being played by a teenager on another planet,” he said.

In case you’re keen to watch the whole ep, it’ll be available down under on 15 May on Foxtel, Foxtel GO or BINGE. But in the meantime, you can catch up on Musk’s monologue here.

Good luck.
