The First Episode of Marvel's "She-Hulk" Has Dropped, And It's Pretty Damn Good

Time to Hulk out.
The first episode of Marvel’s latest Disney+ series has hit our screens, and we’re pretty excited about it.

The series follows Jennifer Walters, a young upstart lawyer, cousin to Bruce Banner (AKA the Hulk), and occasionally a hulk herself.
The show thrusts us straight into the plot, with Actress Tatiana Maslany practicing a strong legal case in her office.
Audiences are left questioning where we are in her story, until her assistant Nikki suggests that she should “hulk out” if things don’t go their way in court.
Boom, we’re straight into it.
And as we’re left questioning how she came to be, Jennifer answers the question for us.
She stares down the barrel of the camera and says she should explain how she got to this point.
This fourth wall break à la Fleabag sets the tone for the show.

We’re then taken through a whirlwind story of how Jennifer got her Hulk powers (thanks to a Sakaaran ship from Thor: Ragnarok no less), and how she learnt to control them.
The bulk of the episode focuses on her development and controlling her powers, and learning how to become the best She-Hulk she can be.
We’re then taken back to the episode’s opening, to the “fun lawyer show” as Jennifer tells the audience directly.
It’s been a great way to introduce us to the character.
Where other Marvel shows, like Daredevil, and even Ms Marvel earlier this year, have been hesitant with going full superhero in their opening episodes, She-Hulk launches us straight into it.
She Hulk might not have the emotional rawness of Wandavision or the action-comedy of Hawkeye, but it does have an important message to share.
A common theme in the episode is Jennifer’s frustration with what women have to put up with in today’s world, especially in her field as a lawyer.
It looks like that theme is going to continue throughout the series and will be a major feature of Head Writer Jessica Gao’s story.

Of course, we have to address the elephant in the room – the CGI.
Since the trailer was released, fans online have been in heated debates about the quality of She-Hulks CGI.

Now that we’ve seen the show, we’ve gotta say – it’s not that bad.
Yeah, it looks a little unrealistic, but to be fair, she is a six foot seven green giant – it’s kinda not supposed to look natural.
Overall, I’ve enjoyed She-Hulk so far – it has some pretty good humour and addresses some important issues.
What's more, there's also some pretty interesting conversation about Captain America's personal life, but you'll have to watch to find out.
She-Hulk releases a new episode every Thursday on Disney+.
