See You Again? "Fortnite" Fans Are Mourning Kevin the Cube, Who Was Too Beautiful For This World

RIP.

You would think Fortnite fans are pretty much okay with death, given how frequently they murder each other in the popular battle royale game.

But a particular passing has them grieving, hard: that of Kevin the Cube.

For those who don’t play Fortnite and therefore don’t understand what there is to possibly mourn about a cube, here’s what you need to know: Back in August, a purple cube suddenly emerged, mysteriously mutating elements of the island map. It earned the nickname 'Kevin' and warmed the hearts of all who came to know it.

But tragically, on Monday night at approximately 7pm EST, Kevin began furiously spinning at his final resting place, Leaky Lake. He cracked open and offered players the opportunity to visit a new dimension, where you needed to touch a butterfly to be transported back to the regular Fornite site.

Literal millions tuned in to watch the "Butterfly Event".

And now, a seeming equal number of fans are creating their own tributes in Kevin’s memory.

Here are the most powerful:

Kevin will always be in our hearts. Kevin will always be our friend.
Kevin will always be remembered.

If you’re struggling with the lack of Kevin in Fortnite right now, you can unlock 'Lil' Kev back bling' for a limited time by playing the "Lil’ Kev Challenges" until 11 November.
