Schoolies Kicks Off With 26 Arrests On The Gold Coast

Gold Coast police arrested 26 people on the first weekend of schoolies, 16 of which were those dreaded ‘toolies’.

According to the Brisbane Times, the 10 schoolies arrested were all male (thus proving the movie Spring Breakers truly exists in the realm of fiction). They were charged mostly for public nuisance and drunkenness. Two more leavers were issued notices for drinking liquor in a public place.

The 16 arrested toolies were charged with similar offences. Another 15 people who aren’t actually school leavers but apparently love hanging out with teenagers were also issued liquor infringement notices. All 31 should feel great about the life choices that led them to that moment.

Still, Queensland Police Service said in a statement that behaviour of the school leavers was actually pretty good, with only a “small number of the large crowd coming to the attention of police.”

Somewhere between 25,000 and 35,000 schoolies were expected to arrive on the Gold Coast by Sunday.

Enjoy your well-deserved celebrations, schoolies; just remember to be smart and safe out there (and try to avoid anyone who looks 34 but is claiming to be 17). Like, this guy:
