What School Strike 4 Climate Rallies Looked Like Around Australia

"If they're not going to act like adults and protect our future, then we're going to have to step up and start taking action." - Abigal Goodsir.

Young people all around Australia ditched class to hit the streets for climate action on Friday 25 March.

It’s timely, given the recent strike down of the youth-led legal action on climate change, the flood crisis ripping through NSW and QLD, and the sixth mass coral bleaching event, which was confirmed on the same day.

As always, the next generation stand strong and make noise during these times and demand change.

With School Strike 4 Climate demonstrations in 36 places across the country, here are some of the highlights:

Boorloo/Perth WA.

Because of rising COVID cases in WA, the Boorloo strike didn't go ahead this year.

Instead, the crew from School Strike 4 Climate WA put together a stack of alternate ways to get involved, like surveys and email scripts to send to local MP's.

You can check those out here.

Jambinu/Geraldton WA.

Regional WA pulled through, though.

The folks from Geraldton Youth Re-Gen Org. came through with their own strike at the Geraldton Foreshore.

Tarntanya/Adelaide SA.

Lots of noise was made on Parliament House Steps in Adelaide, with strikers taking to the ground with chalk on Friday afternoon.

Gadgigal Land/Sydney NSW.

There was a pretty large turnout at the Prime Minister's residence, Kirribilli House in Sydney.

From there, NSW Greens MP Cate Faehrmann tweeted there were helicopters overhead and a big police presence.

Darkinjung country/Central Coast NSW.

Demonstrations were large in regional spots, too.

School Strike 4 Climate Central Coast wrote on Instagram:

"THANK YOU to everyone who braved the rain to come today!!! Hey, @scottmorrisonmp @lucywicksmp , we’re getting tired of your avoidance of climate responsibility because a fragile, non-renewable economy is more important. Today, Australia went on strike, and until you deliver the climate justice we need to safeguard the future of every generation that is to come, you better watch out for election time!!! THE YOUTH ARE RISING"
