The Rumours For The “iPhone X” Are Already Here And They Include Wireless Charging

Let’s begin this article with an elegantly-sprinkled pinch of salt, shall we?

Rumours have begun swirling around Apple’s next iPhone launch, set for late 2017. Nothing new there.

However, a leaked research note by analyst Timothy Arcuri for his company Cowen and Company has emerged, and it cites sources in Apple’s supply chain who have indicated there are three new models on the horizon.

As reported by Apple Insider, the note says two of those models will be the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus. The third will be the iPhone 8, referred to in the research note as “iPhone X”. This is rumoured to be Apple’s tenth-anniversary device. (The first iPhone was released in 2007.)

The research note indicates the 7s models will come with small internal improvements, while sticking with their traditional sizes (4.7-inch and 5.5-inch, respectively).

However, the mooted 5.8-inch “iPhone X” will boast a “wraparound” OLED display, similar to Samsung’s smartphones. To accommodate this design, the earpiece, FaceTime camera and Touch ID fingerprint sensor are rumoured to be embedded in the display.

Arcuri’s note also suggests the “iPhone X” will have some form of facial and gesture recognition, and wireless charging.

Again, we’d recommend exercising muted enthusiasm at this point. Though many iPhone rumours in the past have proven true (R.I.P. Headphone Jack), it’s all a guessing game until Apple’s infamous annual product launches. Those in the business of sharing Apple rumours can’t even agree on the size of the so-called “iPhone X”. (For instance, a previously leaked research note by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities said the “iPhone 8” would be smaller than the 7 Plus, at either 5.1 or 5.2 inches.)

Guess we’ll find out for sure around September. In the meantime, may your dreams be filled of a world without charging cables.
