Reebok Is Now Making Sneakers Out of Corn to be Environmentally Friendly

We’ve heard of "ears of corn" before, but corn for your feet?
Reebok has released a new line of sustainable sneakers made from corn and cotton, in an effort to battle the harmful effect of petroleum used in the production of most athletic footwear.
Instead of relying on synthetic rubber and foam cushioning, a new initiative from Reebok—titled Cotton + Corn—has launched a new design that uses a sole made from corn. Yes, the corn you’re thinking of. The food kind. On your feet.
As you’d maybe expect from the initiative’s name, the upper woven part of the kicks is 100 per cent cotton. This means that 75 per cent of the sneakers is bio-based content.
You can order them online now for $US95 (or $AUD130), and it comes wrapped in 100 per cent recycled packaging too.
This is also just the first release from Cotton + Corn, so look forward to more sustainable clothing from Reebok in the coming months.
By the way, we know we don’t have to say it, but we’d just feel better if we did: please do not eat these shoes.

Technically the shoes are not actually made out of corn but out fibers interwoven with polymers made with substances extracted from corn.
