Real Life Super Nintendo Theme Parks Are Going To Be A Thing (And Concept Art Has Just Arrived)

Nintendo and Universal are joining forces to bring a Mario-themed attractions to Universal Studios in Osaka, Japan.

Super Nintendo World will feature attractions based on many Nintendo titles and will be launching at Universal Studios in Japan. There are plans to open up future ones in Hollywood, California and Orlando, Florida. (Sadly, not Australia).

The announcement and initial concept art has come via Twitter today.

Universal Studios plans to open up the Nintendo attraction in time for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the company said in a media release. The actual monetary cost of the park is expected to exceed 50 billion yen.

“The attraction area will also feature a variety of other globally popular Nintendo characters,” the company announced.

“Nintendo characters and the worlds they inhabit will be re-created at the highest level of quality through the strong partnership between Mr Shigeru Miyamoto, Creative Fellow at Nintendo, and Mark Woodbury, President of Universal Creative, renowned for creative and technical excellence.”

There were teasers of a collaboration between Nintendo and Universal Studios back in November when initial details of a Nintendo-themed attraction were released.

At the time it was described as “expansive, immersive and interactive” featuring “authentic environments filled with multiple attractions, shops and restaurants.”

Better start collecting those gold coins and sussing out cheap flights to Japan.
