Ranking the Celebs and "Hot Idiots" in the "Between Two Ferns: The Movie" Trailer

The cultural event of the season is upon us, darling. No, we’re not talking about the Met Gala, or Cup Day, or hell, even The Veronicas’ appearance at the upcoming Good Things Fest.

No, what we’re talking about is the direct-to-Netflix debut of Between Two Ferns: The Movie.

Directed by Comedy Bang Bang’s Film Directorman Scott Aukerman, this feature-length adaptation of Zach Galifianakis’ webseries sees Zach attempting to ensnare as many celebs as possible for awkward, meta, fern-adjacent interviews, to escape a Faustian bargain with Will Ferrell.

Just two weeks out from its premiere, Netflix deigned to drop a proper trailer, revealing which celebrities exactly are going to get roasted by Galifianakis (joining previous luminaries such as Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and Cardi B).

And though the trailer doesn’t show footage of promised stars Tiffany Haddish, Paul Rudd, Keanu Reeves, Adam Scott, Awkwafina and Chance the Rapper, we indeed get to see plenty of famous faces running Galifianakis’ gauntlet.

Excluding Chrissy Teigen (who pops up in the teaser to tempt Zach into an affair), we’ve ranked the poor souls who wound up between Zach’s ferns in the trailer.

5. Benedict Cumberbatch

… or Benedick Cumberbutt, as Zach calls him. The funny names are a bit on the nose, but you know what’s not on the nose? Benedict’s odd moustache, which is situated slightly beneath the nose. Hope we get an explanation for that bad boy in the feature.

4. Jon Hamm

Bit of a triple dip here, but we’ll allow it, with frequent Comedy Bang Bang guest Hamm making his third appearance in a Between Two Ferns interview. Why would "Jon Hamm" agree to yet another demeaning interview with Galifianakis in the B2FU (Between Two Ferns Universe)? Could it be that he is indeed, a "hot idiot"?

3. Brie Larson

Larson, who appeared on the CBB TV show long before Captain Marvel, isn’t forgetting her roots, donning a blue romper for Between Two Ferns: The Movie, and getting asked about her first period.

2. David Letterman

When we interviewed Aukerman back in 2016, he told us how Letterman was a personal hero to him. So, scoring the legendary late night host—usually hesitant to be interviewed himself—here is a major coup. Though, he doesn’t sound like a fan of Zach’s technique: "I’m just curious about the pathology behind this."

McConaughey agreed to be doused in water, killed off and, most daring of all, wear a shirt. He better make some more space on his Oscar shelf.
