Porgs, After Dark: 22% of Students Are Going to Midnight Screenings of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”

Breaking news: Students are deadset keen to get some of that Star Wars action on Wednesday night.

We will give you a second to process this shocking revelation.

Student Edge has measured the extent of this keenness in a Star Wars survey, asking 1,000 students if they were planning on watching Star Wars: The Last Jedi in cinemas.

What was the Youth Insight? Fifty-four per cent said "Yes", while 31 per cent responded "No". Fifteen per cent had not yet made up their mind, but come on, the movie's out this week. Don't you want to find out what these things are?

Males are significantly more excited for the eighth chapter of the Star Wars saga (we’re not counting Rogue One or the Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure, sorry). Sixty-seven per cent said they were going to see it in cinemas, compared to just 40 per cent of women.

But here’s where the fandom is separated from the excited to the truly devoted: 22 per cent of students said they were going to see the hotly anticipated sequel to The Force Awakens at a midnight screening on Wednesday night. That’s not just counting the guys either: 21 per cent of females are planning on coming to the midnight screenings, which is just a touch below the 22 per cent of males.

So, expect bottled ice-coffee sales to skyrocket on Wednesday afternoon, servos!

A further 16 per cent of students have already pledged to see The Last Jedi multiple times at the cinema, though only five per cent have promised to dress in character when they rock up to the theatre. (Where’s the commitment?)

Eighty-four per cent of students are planning on going to see The Last Jedi with friends, while another 16 per cent are apparently rolling solo. Han Solo. Get it?
