Phoenix Suns’ Gorilla Becomes First Mascot in the NBA to Sign a Shoe Deal

The Hype Beast looks swish in his ‘gorilla-wear’.

Nothing symbolises the American dream being achieved more than the Phoenix Suns’ Gorilla mascot signing a shoe deal.

This marks the first time in NBA history that a team mascot has signed any kind of endorsement deal to exclusively wear a brand’s shoes and clothing.

To reiterate how ridiculous this is, most of the players at Phoenix don’t even have shoe deals.

In what seems like something out of a cheese-induced dream, the Suns’ Gorilla, known as 'GO', sat down with the owner of boutique fashion label Guest List, and put pen to paper in front of the cameras.

It all looked very official, except for the fact that there was a gorilla draped head-to-toe in streetwear literally signing a contract.

Honestly, this feels like an episode of The Twilight Zone.

According to the Phoenix Suns official Twitter page, the deal includes selected footwear, apparel, and accessories.

The first new-look outfit that the Suns’ mascot showcased was reported to be worth more than $113,000 and included shoes, jeans and a bum bag.

“His debut look featured Bape x BCM tee and belt bag. Embellish jeans and a pair of Union Jordan One’s,” the statement from the Suns read.

“The outfit was completed with a Rolex and an assortment of custom Guest List chains—with the total value of the outfit eclipsing more than $US88,000.”

Guest List owner Ryan Gizinski said the deal just made sense given the location the team is in.

“This means so much to me. We are a part of the Valley. The players shop with us, the fans shop with us and community in the city comes in and support us,” the label owner said.

“For us to team up with the Suns is amazing. We lace people up with the gear they wear to games and for us to play a role in this is incredible.”

Ngl I love everything about this story and surely if the players are earning millions every year for playing, why can't those people cooking inside a mascot suit snag a little deal on the side?

Plus, I can’t wait to see Hugo the Hornet, Pierre the Pelican and G-Wiz to all pen their own clothing deals too.
