How to Watch Jordan Peele’s "The Twilight Zone" in Australia

Are you ready to get freaked out by Jordan Peele yet again?

We started to get a bit worried that Jordan Peele’s hotly anticipated reboot of The Twilight Zone would never actually make it to Australia, given the delay in an announcement for its local debut.

However, following the show’s premiere on the American streaming service CBS All Access, we finally have confirmation that Peele’s oddball anthology show will indeed be debuting down under.

(We’re sure the huge box office success for his latest film, Us, probably played a part in it making it to our shores. Though, off the back of Get Out, Peele shouldn’t need to have proven anything further!)

The reboot is based on the original and iconic 1959 series by Rod Serling. This time, executive producer Peele serves as narrator, introducing individual episodes that feature different sets of actors encountering strange and sometimes supernatural situations (a few even inspired by old episodes). Stars include Adam Scott, Zazie Beetz, John Cho, Steven Yeun, Chris O’Dowd, DeWanda Wise and a whole bunch more.

Intrigued? Of course you are! Well, here’s what you need to know if you want to watch it locally (and legally).

The first episode of the show will air on Channel 10.

That’s right, you can enjoy the instalment titled "The Comedian", starring Kumail Nanjiani, on free-to-air television! Channel 10 will air the ep on April 18 at the, ahem, primetime hour of 10:30pm.

Here’s the thing: if you get sucked in by that first ep, you’ll have to pony up some dough to watch the rest of the season.

Wait, where are the rest of the episodes airing?

On April 19, the first four episodes will become available on 10 All Access, which is Channel 10’s paid streaming service (not to be confused with their catch-up service, TenPlay). It costs $9.99 a month, and yes, it takes its inspiration from CBS All Access, as CBS recently purchased Ten Network.

The remaining six episodes of the ten-episode season will roll-out on a weekly basis from April 26.

Will I like it if I’ve never seen the original Twilight Zone before?

Reviews so far are pretty positive, with it getting a Rotten Tomatoes score of 77%.

As for whether or not it’ll be your bag, that depends. If you’ve been loving Black Mirror on Netflix, this could indeed be for you, as Black Mirror—with its standalone eps and highly ironic twist endings—was heavily influenced by The Twilight Zone. Plus, if you’re a fan of Peele’s socio-political thrillers, there’s a good chance you’ll get a kick out of his twisted new Twilight Zone scenarios. Find out for yourself on April 18.
