People Go Crazy When They Order Pizzas Online, Actual Study Says

Pepperoni. Ham. Sausage. Bacon. Steak. Chicken. Prawns. Mushrooms. Capsicum. Black Olives. Green Olives. Tomatoes. Tomato Sauce. Barbecue Sauce...

A new study has found that people go way over the top when they order pizzas online, as opposed to over the phone, where there is another human on the line to judge their pizza topping/ life decisions.

Researchers from the University of Toronto, Duke University and the National University of Singapore joined forces for the paper, set to be published in the journal Management Science, and not, as you might expect, This Is Why We’re All Fat magazine.

According to the Huffington Post, the conclusion reached by the paper is that internet users let their guard down, “uninhibited by the social constraints of in-person interaction."

Working with an unnamed pizza company, the researchers worked through the data of 160,000 orders from 2007 to 2011.

They found that online orders came with 14 per cent more special instructions – like, extra toppings, or weird sauce combos, or more half-and-half pizzas – and had 3.5 per cent more calories than orders taken over the phone.

So, perhaps for the sake of your health, next time you think about conveniently ordering a pizza online, ask yourself if you’d be comfortable repeating your order to someone over the phone.

Actually, scratch that. Go nuts! If you can’t have freedom when ordering pizzas in private, what’s the point of having freedom at all?
