Oscar Pistorius Drops Prosthetic Legs In Court To Argue For Shorter Jail Sentence

Disgraced Paralympian Oscar Pistorius took off his prosthetic legs and walked on stumps in court while arguing for a shorter jail term for the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

According to ABC News, the visibly emotional double-amputee walked across the High Court in Pretoria as part of his lawyer’s concluding arguments.

The feat was to demonstrate Pistorius’ “vulnerability” during his shooting of Steenkamp through the bathroom door on Valentine’s Day 2013 (which he has argued was accidental).

"It is three o'clock in the morning, it is dark, he is on his stumps," his lawyer argued.

"His balance is seriously compromised and ... he would not be able to defend himself. He was anxious, he was frightened.”

The prosecuting lawyer, in retaliation, asked the court to show photos of Steenkamp’s corpse after she was shot four times. The state is asking for a minimum of 15 years for Pistorius.

Pistorius was found guilty of murder by South Africa’ Supreme Court of Appeal, after he had initially been convicted of the lesser crime of culpable homicide. He was about to be transferred to house arrest for that crime before the South African government intervened.

The verdict will be handed out on July 6.

  • This is another Stanford Rape Case where people try and get pity to take away the focus from what is actually the crime.

  • He lost his legs Reeva's family lost her.

  • I don't see how "displaying him as vulnerable" will make a difference. He clearly murdered his girlfriend, which shows he is dangerous, not "vulnerable."

  • This was a play by his lawyer to demonstrate that he is weak and vulnerable. This is just sympathy tactic to try and make him seem less guilty.
