One Year On, Michael Clarke Pays Tribute To Phillip Hughes

On the year anniversary of cricketer Phillip Hughes’ death, former Test Captain Michael Clarke has written a powerful tribute to his dearly departed mate.
“I’m sure Greg, Virginia, Megan and Jason are all together today and I just want them to know that we’re all behind them,” Clarke writes in The Daily Telegraph, paying his respects to Hughes’ family. “If there’s anything they need from any of us in the cricket community we’re still right here to show that support and love.” On November 25, 2014, Hughes was struck in the neck by a cricket ball during a Sheffield Shield match at the SCG. After suffering a subarachnoid haemorrhage, he was placed into an induced coma for surgery. He failed to regain consciousness, passing away two days later at age 25. “The time has gone so fast and I think about Hughesy and miss him every day… His love for cricket, his cattle and for life was so rich and inspiring,” Clarke added. “Everybody is going to do it tough this week, especially the Hughes family, but in our own private way we can celebrate what an amazing life he had and how he lived every single day to the full.” Clarke also discussed this evening’s historic ‘day-night’ Test match in Adelaide, during which both teams will break at 4:08pm (in remembrance of Hughes’ Baggy Green number).
