Cricket Legend Richie Benaud Has Passed Away

Whether you remember him as one of Australia’s finest captains, or grew up with his voice echoing around the house, you will miss Richie Benaud.

The legendary cricket player and iconic commentator has passed away aged 84 after a short battle with skin cancer. He began receiving treatment in November.

Throughout his storied career, Benaud played 63 Tests for Australia and became the first player to not only score 2,000 Test runs but also to take 200 Test wickets.

As Australia’s captain, he never lost a series.

Following his retirement from the game in 1964, Benaud began an esteemed run as one of the nation’s most trusted and respected sports analysts.

For more than four decades, his inimitable – through frequently imitated – voice was intrinsically linked to the sport. Even after his death, that voice will be hard to shake.
