One Nation Candidate Says Single Mums Are “Too Lazy To Attract And Hold A Mate”

David Archibald, a Western Australia One Nation candidate, has described single motherdom as a “lifestyle choice” and thinks their payments should be axed.

In a 2015 article, Archibald referred to single mums as “too lazy to attract and hold a mate, undoing the work of possibly 3 million years of evolutionary pressure”. He also said their actions will result in a rapid rise “in the portion of the population that is lazy and ugly”.

The comments, newly brought to light in the lead-up to WA's state election, have infuriated senior Labor frontbencher Anthony Albanese, who was raised by a single mother. He has called for Archibald to be given the sack.

“I had an enormous amount of love and I have nothing but respect for my late mum,” Albanese said. “I regard his comments as incredibly personally offensive but more importantly offensive towards all those single parents out there.”

Archibald is currently running for the seat of Pilbara, but his comments haven’t been going down too well in the electorate’s largest city, Karratha. Residents have described his views as “antiquated and archaic”.

Albanese has also responded saying, “the idea that if you have a single mother then somehow you’re less of a human being really belongs way back in the dark ages and I find it incredibly offensive.”

Despite the offence his comments have caused, Archibald has not backed down from what he’s said.

One Nation leader Pauline Hanson said she won’t allow rogue candidates to influence the ambitions she has for the party. “No one, no one is going to take it over and destroy what I want to achieve, what I want to do” she said.

Wonder what she'll make of all this?
