One Direction Is Either Breaking Up, Or Just On A Break, And We Just Can't With This Emotional Rollercoaster

The American tabloids are in something of a Ross and Rachel situation, totally unable to decide whether or not One Direction have broken up or a simply on a break.

If you ask Us Weekly, it’s the former, with a source apparently close to the boy band suggesting their “extended hiatus” has actually become permanent.

The source also says that the foursome decided “not to renew their recording contract” following their tumultuous 2015, in which original member Zayn Malik walked away to begin a solo career.

Louis Tomlinson’ impending fatherhood is also cited as a reason for the break.

Before you begin clutching your 1D records as you sit, tear-strewn, in the shower, note that Niall Horan told ET, “we’re not breaking up.”

“We're literally taking time out to see our friends and see our family and reflect on what we've done over the last few years,” he added.

If you trust unnamed sources more than band-members on such matters, USA Today has their own “person familiar with the situation” claiming that there’s no truth to the break-up rumours.

So, in summary, basically nothing has changed in the world of One Direction.

For now, at least.
