"Once Upon a Deadpool", a Kid-Friendly "Deadpool 2", Hits Aussie Cinemas 13 December

Is a Deadpool without violence and swearing your kind of vibe?

One of the things that makes Deadpool so successful as a franchise is that it takes what you know about superhero movies and then crushes it into dust and turns it into a dirty joke.

But, what if all the dirty jokes and stabby moments were cut out and replaced with more "family-appropriate" punch-ups and puns?

Once Upon a Deadpool, which is out in Australian cinemas on 13 December, is precisely this thing.

Essentially, Deadpool 2 is being re-cut and re-released in order to make it more appropriate for a younger audience and, surprisingly, it's only three minutes shorter than the original.

Ryan Reynolds (who plays Deadpool) even re-shot some Princess Bride-inspired scenes and narration with actor and director, Fred Savage.

While the film rating for the Australian release hasn't yet been revealed, it seems likely to drop the movie from an MA15+ to an M-rating (the equivalent of PG-13 in America).

"Fox has been asking for a PG-13 basically since the start in 2006," Reynolds told Deadline.

"I've said no since 2006. Now, this one time, I said 'Yes' on two conditions.

"First, a portion of the proceeds had to go to charity. Second, I wanted to kidnap Fred Savage. The second condition took some explaining..."

That charity he mentions is F*** Cancer, a campaign that aims to give "people diagnosed with cancer, their families and support network should have equitable access to early detection, prevention and psychosocial support." They'll get $US1 from every movie ticket sold.

So, look, maybe it's not what the majority of Deadpool fans want, but it's for a good cause and it will give younger kids the chance to see it without being totally traumatised.

Watch this parents-approved version of Deadpool 2 when it hits cinemas on 13 December a two-week run.
