“Deadpool 3” Is Joining the MCU and Will Be R-Rated

Filming isn’t happening in 2021, so we’re gonna have to wait.

Following Disney’s Fox takeover in 2019, there has been a lot of speculation about what might happen to our favourite crass superhero Deadpool.

After all, Deadpool isn't even available to watch on Disney+ at the moment. That's 'cos even though Disney absorbed Fox—who owned the rights to Deadpool and his X-Men buddies, and produced all their films to date—they have declined to add their, uh, ruder films to Disney+.

Thankfully, the superhero gods have come through and confirmed that Deadpool 3 will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) along with X-Men, despite the MCU being heavily PG.

With Deadpool being such a successful franchise and the character being so popular, it would be a dodgy move to get rid of the character just because of his risqué themes.

President of Marvel Studios Kevin Fiege told Collider all the deets about what we might expect from the third installment and when filming is set to start.

"It will be rated R and we are working on a script right now, and Ryan’s overseeing a script right now… It will not be [filming] this year," Fiege said.

"Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor. We’ve got a number of things we’ve already announced that we now have to make, but it’s exciting for it to have begun.

"Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life."

It’s likely that filming won’t start until 2022 and we won’t get to see Deadpool 3 hit our cinemas until at least 2023.

Although it’s disappointing to hear that we’ll have to wait a while for Deadpool 3, it does makes sense.

The creators of Marvel are already super busy filming Thor 4, Spider-Man 3 and are set to begin production on Doctor Strange 2, Black Panther 2 and Captain Marvel 2 this year.

With WandaVision also set to be released later this month, it’s clear that Marvel already has a lot on their plate.

This February, a new section for more general entertainment on Disney+ called 'Star' will be launching, which will feature content like Die Hard and Family Guy (which is defs not PG) and—you guessed it—Deadpool.

At this stage, Star will be available for viewers in Europe, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Singapore.

Fingers crossed this means more titles (like Deadpool 3) will be able to make their way to Disney+ despite their adult content (I’m not still crying about the Lizzie McGuire reboot, you are).
