Nicki Minaj Calls Kanye West And Sharon Osbourne Out For Racial Double Standards

Nicki Minaj has made some poignant observations about racial double standards in the entertainment industry, pointing the finger at both Kanye West and Sharon Osbourne.

World-renowned rapper and successful business woman Nicki Minaj has spoken out against racial issues and the policing of black women's bodies.

Minaj took aim at Kanye West, and the lyrics in his 2005 single "Gold Digger" during an interview with Marie Claire magazine.

"I'm so tired of black women feeling that when our men get rich, they're going to leave them for a woman of a different race," she said.

"It wasn't funny when Kanye said [in "Gold Digger"], 'When he get on he'll leave your ass for a white girl' and Kanye happens to be with a white girl now."

She is, of course, referring to Kanye's marriage with celebrity superstar, Kim Kardashian.

"It wasn't funny when he said it; it was the f***ing truth."

Side note: Kim K is half Armenian, but is pretty consistently "read" as white in America, where there is a narrow black-white dichotomy.

Minaj pointed out that there exists a distinguishable rift between how white women and women of colour are perceived in mainstream media and the entertainment industry. Typically, she argues, it's more socially acceptable for white women to post provocative selfies than women of colour.

X Factor judge Sharon Osbourne has previously referred to Minaj's "Anaconda" single photo as reminding her of a "cheap porno cover of a DVD"...

... only to brazenly support and commend Kim Kardashian later on for her nude mirror selfie. Oh, you know, just being - slightly - hypocritical.

In fact, she even tried to recreate the image herself on social media and tacked on a celebratory caption too.

Minaj has never shied away from pointing out racial inequalities in the entertainment industry. White women - and women considered "white passing" - are often placed on a pedestal, while black women and their bodies are policed and their actions criticised harshly.

"When Kim Kardashian's naked picture came out [Sharon] praised it and my fans attacked her for being such a hypocrite," she said.

Update: Nicki has chimed in with a response to the Marie Claire article.
