A Woman Has Been Sacked After Calling Michelle Obama An "Ape In Heels" In A Facebook Status

One woman has landed in hot water after posting a racist Facebook status about Michelle Obama.
According to the BBC, Pamela Ramsey Taylor—a resident of Clay County in the US—referred to the first lady as an "ape".
She wrote, "It will be refreshing to have a classy, beautiful, dignified first lady in the White House. I'm tired of seeing a Ape in heels."
If you thought things couldn't get any worse: they do.
Local mayor Beverly Whaling responded to Ms Taylor's status with "just made my day Pam".

The controversial status spread like wildfire, even prompting a petition to be made which called for both women to be fired from their jobs. So far, it has collected more than 85,000 signatures.
Ms. Taylor has since spoken out to local news outlet WSAZ. She has acknowledged that her post could be "interpreted as racist, but in no way was [it] intended to be".
Her explanation is a little hard, for most, to wrap their heads around. You know, given the long and dated history of white people comparing black people to primates, and all.

She said it was more a matter of expressing a personal opinion on attractiveness, not the colour of a person's skin.
Regardless of her reasoning, it appears the logic of "actions-have-repercussions" has been victorious.
The New York Daily News reports that Ms Taylor has been stripped from her position, and the entire town of Clay will be coming together to discuss the issue at an upcoming meeting.
Owens Brown, Director of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People West Virginia chapter, was pretty appalled by the events. Brown said it was "unfortunate that people still have these racist undertones".
"Unfortunately, this is a reality that we are dealing with in America today. There's no place for these types of attitudes in our state."
Does the whole fiasco remind anyone else of that time Sydney Swans' Adam Goodes was called an "ape" by a Magpies fan?
Like, it's 2016. Can people just, not?
