Netflix Announces More Episodes Of "Making A Murderer"

Good news? Your problematic fave is coming back.

Netflix today announced a second season of Making a Murderer, the true crime doco that failed to fix America’s broken, conviction-favouring justice system but nonetheless provided subscribers with addictive content over Christmas.

The series, which received six Emmy nominations last week, concerns Steven Avery, a Wisconsin man who was wrongly convicted for a crime he didn’t commit. After his release from prison (where he spent nearly two decades), he was once again arrested, along with his nephew Brendan Dassey, for the grisly murder of a young photographer named Teresa Halbach.

Okay, here’s your spoiler alert.

Though the first season followed – in extreme granularity – Avery and Dassey’s doomed battle against Manitowoc County police, the second season will trace the post-conviction process. (In April, it was revealed that Avery’s new attorney was working to prove he was falsely convicted of the murder.)

Much like with the podcast Serial, Making a Murderer shone an unflattering light on American law and order, encouraging online sleuths to suggest that Avery was entirely innocent. However, in the wake of the documentary's release - which also seems to come down on the "wrongly convicted" side of the argument - some information excluded from the show emerged, indicating that Avery's involvement in Halbach's disappearance is still pretty questionable.

“We are extremely grateful for the tremendous response to, and support of, the series, " said show creators Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos in a statement.

"The viewers’ interest and attention has ensured that the story is not over, and we are fully committed to continuing to document events as they unfold."

It’s not known how many more episodes of Making a Murderer will be produced, or when we can expect them to debut.

More significantly, it’s not known if normcore internet baes Jerry Buting and Dean Strang, Avery’s former attorneys, will make an appearance. They are set to tour Australia for a series of talks this November.
