Michelle Obama Sings Boyz II Men, Tells Guys To “Get It Together” At SXSW ‘Let Girls Learn’ Panel

This week, the Obamas visited the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival, because, well, that’s just a sweet way to spend a few days.

President Barack Obama gave the Keynote address at the opening of the festival, which was all well and good, but it was First Lady Michelle who won the most hearts at a ‘Let Girls Learn’ panel yesterday.

(Let Girls Learn being her initiative to raise worldwide enrollment rates for adolescent girls.)

Queen Latifah moderated the chat between Obama, Missy Elliott, Diane Warren and Sophia Bush, during which FLOTUS was asked how men can help act as better allies for women.

According to The Verge, she answered by telling men to “get it together.”

“If you're a man at the table and you look around and there are only men at the table, you should ask yourself, How can I do better?,” she said.

“There are a lot of men-only tables in this country, and around the world... We need you, men. Get it together."

As the conference neared a close, Michelle – noted for her rapping prowess - broke into a quick rendition of Boyz II Men’s “It’s So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday”, perhaps in subtle reference to her earlier point about men not being boys, but probably because it’s just a great song.

Yes, someone recorded it.

Michelle Obama was also asked during the panel if she’d ever run for President herself.

“You don't have to be the president of the United States to do wonderful, marvelous things,” she said, adding, “I'm not slowing down anytime soon."

Maybe she’ll change her mind after President Trump’s first term nears an end.
