The Trailer For The New Mario Movie Has Dropped And It Looks … Surprisingly Good?

Let’s-a go!

In the latest classic video game to get the movie treatment, the teaser trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie has dropped, and to be honest, it looks pretty good.

Fans of the classic Italian plumber have been waiting for more than a year to see what the new film would look like, and Nintendo hasn’t disappointed.

Visually, it reminds us of the classic Super Mario N64 game – the 3D animation perfectly captures the characters in their best form.

The trailer opens to an icy castle, an imposing ship landing, an army filing out and the announcement comes: “Behold, the king of the coopas!”

Out from the ship comes the one and only: Bowser. Looking super filled out and voiced by the legendary Jack Black.

Literal chills.

Most of the trailer spends its time with Bowser, and we only get a glimpse of the title character towards the end.

The internet has been worries about Mario’s casting for 12 months now – it’s been suggested that Chris Pratt shouldn’t be voicing the iconic character cause of his lack of Italian heritage.

We do get to hear Pratt’s voice, and he’s really just using his regular speaking voice – and that’s almost better than him putting on a cartoony, stereotypical Italian accent.

Throughout the trailer, we also get to see glimpses of Keegan-Michael Key’s (from Key and Peele) Toad and Charlie Day’s (It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia) Luigi.

It’s not the first time a Mario movie has been attempted – back in 1993 there was a live action Mario Bros movie that was … let’s say unsettling.

There’s a lot we still don’t know about the new movie – mainly the plot. It’s clear it’ll revolve around Bowser as the antagonist, but what he’s after we don’t know.

One thing we do know for sure is – we’ll get to see it all in April 2023.
