Maisie Williams on Arya’s Huge "Game of Thrones" Moment: "F*** You, Jon"

This post is (particularly) dark and full of spoilers.

Last night, Game of Thrones aired its long-awaited, 80-minute showdown between the armies of the living and the dead.

If you haven’t watched it yet, this is your last chance to make like Theon and jump ship before reading about all those who fell during "The Long Night".

Okay, good.

The ep was surprisingly light on main character murders (despite the many slain soldiers and wights), with everyone seemingly marked for certain death (Jamie, Brienne, Grey Worm) making it out alive.

However, we did say farewell to Melisandre, Ser Jorah, Theon, Edd, Beric and our eternal champion Lyanna Mormont, who at least took one of those zombie giants with her (tearfully: slay queen, slay).

Thankfully, we also said buh-bye to the biggest bad of all, The Night King, who turned out to be as strategically-dunderheaded as Jon Snow, leaving himself open to a gutting by the wily Arya Stark. (Gee, thanks, entire circle of wight-guards.) His only distraction: the glazed-over thousand-yard stare of Bran, who had peaced out long ago.

But, yay Arya. Not only did the show’s best and most capable character get to strike the decisive blow to save humanity, she did it mere hours after bedding Gendry. Sounds like it’s gonna make one hell of a journal entry.

In the after-show special "Inside the Episode", showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss said they knew for about "three years" that Arya would be the one to take out the Night King, and not Jon Snow, as long-prophesised.

Maisie Williams, who plays Arya, told EW that she was initially unsure about the responsibility. And her scrub boyfriend seemed to echo her uncertainty.

"I immediately thought that everybody would hate it; that Arya doesn’t deserve it," she explained.

"The hardest thing is in any series is when you build up a villain that’s so impossible to defeat and then you defeat them. It has to be intelligently done because otherwise people are like, 'Well, [the villain] couldn’t have been that bad when some 100-pound girl comes in and stabs him.' You gotta make it cool. And then I told my boyfriend and he was like, 'Mmm, should be Jon though really, shouldn’t it?'"

However, she eventually convinced herself that she earned it, saying: "So then I was like, 'F*** you Jon, I get it.'"

Even Kit Harington, who plays Jon, admits he was "surprised", telling EW, "I thought it was gonna be me!"

On Instagram, Williams’ on-screen sister Sophie Turner confirmed that Arya really is "that b****".

Williams responded by posting on-set footage of Turner singing to Soulja Boy. We pray this is a teaser for Episode 4.
