Lip Sync 101: Hold Your Mic The Right Way Up, Unlike This Chinese Singer

Don't do as Sa Dingding does.
Not so long ago, lip-syncing was the most egregious sin a pop star could commit. (Remember Ashley Simpson, whose career basically ended after she was caught mouthing-along to her own music on SNL, or Milli Vanilli, the Grammy-winning duo who had their award revoked when their miming was revealed? Barely? Exactly.) But maybe Jimmy Fallon and his army of lip-syncing stars have helped usher in an age of understanding with their viral cracks at silent karaoke: they prove you don’t need to actually sing to still entertain. Chinese folk star Sa Dingding will no doubt hope her fans are more forgiving than they might have been in years past after she was caught holding her microphone upside down during a live performance at the Lantern Festival Gala in China.Though Sa quickly – and skilfully – flipped her mic the right way round, there’s no hiding the fact that the bottoms of mic, famously, don’t actually work the same way as the tops do. According to Mashable, Dingding joked about the incident on her Weibo account, saying she’ll sharpen her acting skills “next time.” Jimmy Fallon, call this woman. Photo: YouTube.
