"Lego Movie" Directors Making Live-Action Han Solo "Star Wars" Spin-Off

Sometimes the world is right and just.

The guys behind The Lego Movie and the 21 Jump Street reboot have been hand-picked to helm a Han Solo Star Wars spin-off.

Once upon a time we would have said the world didn’t need a separate Han Solo movie – especially one that doesn’t star a 30-year-old Harrison Ford – but now that we know it’s being directed by Chris Miller and Phil Lord, we realise it’s all we’ve ever needed.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news first, no doubt raising the ire of the Sith lords in charge of Star Wars publicity.

In a joint statement on StarWars.com, the filmmakers broke their silence by saying, “This is the first film we’ve worked on that seems like a good idea to begin with,” referring to the backlash that has met the announcement of each of their previous projects.

“This is a dream come true for us. And not the kind of dream where you’re late for work and all your clothes are made of pudding, but the kind of dream where you get to make a film with some of the greatest characters ever, in a film franchise you’ve loved since before you can remember having dreams at all.” Adorable!

Miller and Lord will make the project their next priority, in order to meet the May 2018 release date.

The Empire Strikes Back and upcoming The Force Awakens screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan is now penning the screenplay with his son Jon Kasdan. That’s adorable too!

Place your bets on how quickly Chris Pratt will be announced as the lead below.
