The Labor Party Wants Adam Goodes To Run At The Next Federal Election (For Them, Obvs)

Adam Goodes’ sporting career came to an inauspicious end this year (and undeservedly so). Might he find a second life in politics?
Fairfax Media has confirmed the Sydney Swans great, 2014 Australian of the Year and current David Jones ambassador was approached by the Labor Party to discuss a potential run at the next federal election.
Earlier in the year, Northern Territory Labor Senator and Olympic gold medallist Nova Peris was tasked by the party with approaching Goodes to discuss a career in politics.
No official offer has been made by the Labor Party; however, Opposition Leader Bill Shorten is reportedly eager to chat with Goodes on the subject.
Goodes' manager, Lucy Mills, spoke on behalf of the retired footballer, who is holidaying overseas. She was “not aware” of Labor’s advances, nor Goodes’ political aspirations.
Only a few months ago, Goodes noted that he was “not interested in party politics [and] definitely not interested in stepping into that arena.”
Labor isn’t the first party to eye off Goodes though.
Rumours emerged last week that he had been approached by the Greens for a crack at Anthony Albanese’s seat in Grayndler, NSW.
Goodes’ 372-game football career closed out with a semi-final loss in September, amidst an ongoing “booing” controversy that many believe was racially charged.
Though the persistent booing was supposedly a factor in Goodes walking away from the AFL, could it also have inspired a change of heart when it comes to his political aspirations?
