Kmart Australia Hit By Security Breach; Customer Details - And Savings! - Hacked

What do Ashley Madison, Kylie Jenner and Kmart all have in common?

No, it’s not the start of a joke – though do feel free to make your own punchline at home.

All three have been data-mined by hackers, with Kmart Australia being the latest to join the ranks of the Kardashian/Jenner clan and the infamous adultery service.

As reported by Mashable, Kmart announced in a statement yesterday that an “external privacy breach” saw the names, email addresses, telephone numbers and delivery/billing addresses of those who’ve shopped online with Kmart Australia hacked.

Most embarrassingly: so too were the specific details of the customers’ purchases. Apologies to those who snapped up this Nose and Ear Trimmer in what you thought was confidence. (Though, at $8, maybe it was worth having your info hacked over.)

Nothing has been leaked publicly and Kmart assures customers no credit card or payment details were “compromised or accessed.” (If you've shopped with them online but haven’t received an email from Kmart telling you that you were among the hacked, you're in the clear.)

The company has contacted the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner and the Australian Federal Police to find those responsible.

Hackers: you’re on blast.
