Kesha Thanks Supporters With Emotional Facebook Post; Adele Publicly Backs Her At Brit Awards

Trigger warning: This article discusses rape and sexual abuse.
Kesha has responded to the deluge of support she’s received from colleagues in the music industry with emotional posts on both Instagram and Facebook. Yesterday, alongside a teary-eyed Instagram photo, Kesha shared a few words of “gratitude” for those who have offered encouragement (or, in the case of Taylor Swift, $US250,000) in her battle against Sony and producer Dr. Luke. “[The] support I have received has left my face swollen from tears,” she wrote. “I love you all so much,” she continued, adding, “a statement too large for this format is coming.”That longer statement arrived this morning on Facebook, in which she stressed, "this case has never been about a renegotiation of my record contract... this is about being free from my abuser." "I would be willing to work with Sony if they do the right thing and break all ties that bind me to my abuser," she said. "I think about young girls today – I don’t want my future daughter – or your daughter – or any person to be afraid that they will be punished if they speak out about being abused, especially if their abuser is in a position of power."
I'm so, so beyond humbled and thankful for all of the support I'vereceived from everyone. Words cannot really express...

Kesha has been seeking to nullify her six-album contract with Sony and end her working relationship with producer Dr. Luke, whom she had previously accused of rape. Last Friday, a judge ruled in favour of Sony, compelling Kesha to fulfil her contract. Though Sony claimed to have offered another producer for Kesha to collaborate with, she expressed a fear that the company would only promote her music if she worked with Dr. Luke (a reliable hit-maker for the company). Dr. Luke – real name Luke Gottwald – spoke publicly about the accusations on Twitter earlier this week, suggesting Kesha was “motivated by money” in her legal venture. Artists like Lorde, Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande, Fiona Apple, Dev Hynes, Lady Gaga, Lily Allen and Kelly Clarkson have all stood in solidarity with Kesha. Adele joined that list today, when she was named Best Female Solo Artists at the 2016 Brit Awards. During her acceptance speech, she said, “I’d also like to take this moment to publicly support Kesha.” More news as it develops.
